Health Management Brief

Some good news and we all like good news. Urology practices continue to navigate the onslaught of federal and private payer administrative and financial challenges while delivering quality care and services.  Working with numerous group practices around the country and speaking with many practice leaders I see firsthand the impact on both private practice and employed physicians. Every medical group today is challenged by the staggering lists of competencies required to survive the reality of new value-based payment methodology while maximizing current fee-for-service revenues. The healthcare landscape is clearly different from the one that existed even five years ago and the financial impact on physician net income is real. Today’s healthcare leaders must navigate an unprecedented era of change including healthcare reform driven mandates and the rapid advancement in healthcare technology driven solutions.

The dictum, control what you can and work smarter is more important than ever. Internal driven efficiencies, management and staff skills, enhancing patient access, reducing out migration and focusing on profitable services are things you can control. Applying innovative and emerging technologies as cost effective business solutions for improving processes, patient access and timeliness, and patient direct care education models are things you can manage.

I will briefly share some thoughts for an easily integrated practice management and patient education tool – iMed® from 300 Medical.  Seeing more of iMed® I like this solution tool for all the right reasons: it works and can improve integrated practice management and care delivery models by helping the practice do more without increasing demands on physicians or staff.

iMed® offers advanced, yet simple, cost effective practice on-boarding and scalable current and downstream added value. Efficiencies for increasing patient office encounters with existing footprint and creating new opportunities for revenue growth are clearly available.  I reviewed the iMed last year and the scope of practice patient centric solutions continue to grow. Simply, iMed® from 300 Medical offers the practice a game changer.

Quick summary of key points:

  • Patient centric education including interactive audio visual techniques
  • Informed Consent and Forms Management
  • Patient Satisfaction Surveys
  • HIPAA Compliant Doctor-to-Patient and Doctor-to-Doctor video chat

Quick example: Driving added value and revenue through increased efficiencies

iMed® delivers clear educational content in front of those patients pre-designated by physicians, then iMed® facilitates the patient’s understanding of what they are reviewing.  Simple, easy to use yes or no buttons appear at pre-determined intervals in the educational process. Patients are then able to answer simple questions and notate if they want the information they are shown e-mailed to them. The physician can see the understanding level and responses from the patient. An additional option is available for digitally capturing informed consent with date stamp in the patient medical record on the iPad. Again, the system is easy to use and easy to capture patient data and offers both financial and operational advantages.

In summary, providing quality urological care and services in today’s changing reimbursement world requires the practice to look for opportunities that can drive revenues. Again, focus on what you can control, what you can manage and solutions that can be easily integrated and deliver added value.  As practice leaders, you know firsthand that remaining profitable is critical to organizational cohesiveness and success.
